After a respite from the grueling world of celebrity culture, platinum-selling artist Aaron Carter is back with a vengeance – returning to the public eye as a lead in the world’s longest running musical The Fantasticks. Previously seen on Broadway in Seussical and as a 2009 contestant on “Dancing With the Stars,” Carter steps back into the role of Matt, the central character who has his love tested when he falls for a young girl just beyond the garden wall. The experience highlights Carter’s commitment to pushing boundaries in his career and exploring his interests beyond the world of commercial music that he was groomed for.

“Never in the 51-year-history of The Fantasticks have we opted to cast someone with Aaron Carter’s level of fame, instead quietly enjoying our reputation for giving many future stars their first professional performing gig,” said lyricist-book writer Tom Jones in a statement. “But when I saw the level of enthusiasm, professionalism and sheer talent Aaron brought to us, I knew that he would be an incredibly exciting addition to The Fantasticks family.”

Eager to once again perform the songs that his fans grew up with, Carter will also be headlining two concerts in the Northeast: at Foxboro Massachusetts’ Showcase Live on Thursday, January 12th at 8:00pm and New York City’s Gramercy Theater on January 19th at 6:30pm. Pop music lovers can also look forward to new music and Aaron’s hit song “I Want Candy,” which he will be bringing back for the upcoming shows.

As if this weren’t enough, Carter also has plans to release several new tracks on an EP coming soon. 2012 promises to be a banner year for the young star who has turned his life around and is back in a big way. Coming full circle, Aaron is kicking off his new endeavors with the help of legendary music manager Johnny Wright of Wright Entertainment Group, who says of the singer:

“After being part of the start of Aaron’s career at the young age of 10, I’m proud to work with him again and to be part of his team at this stage as we go to the next level of his acting and music careers.”
