After running a magazine for a few years, the release schedule of the major film / television releasing companies becomes known. It seems as if they all ramp up for the end of the year, and then slack off considerably during January. Funimation is the only company that I have ever seen that has put a strong foot forward during this inaugural month, and this second volume of Sekirei should show that. Sekirei is one of those shows that is so over the top that it becomes brilliant.

The ample amount of puns and craziness that occurs in each episode will have viewers rolling on the floor laughing. What strikes me as incredibly strong during this release is the ability of the show to resonate with American audiences. The human form is something that all individuals, no matter where one lives or what language that one speaks, can appreciate. I believe that the humor employed during Sekirei reflects that, and this allows the resulting release to be that much more strong. With Minato’s life constantly in danger, the amount of tense humor that fills the episode blends well with the much more physical type employed at points.

Funimation has included a large number of bonus features with Sekirei 2; the commentary laid down for two episodes (5 and 10) provides significant context in a way that simply watching the show would be unable to provide. The opening and closing songs for the show are provided without text, for a more authentic experience. Make sure to check out Funimation’s website for information about the different movies, series, and other releases that they will be bringing to retail in 2012. I know that I am excited.
