Wordgirl is a show that should be required watching for any children aged 6 to 12. This is particularly true with Wordgirl’s latest feature, The Rise of Miss Power. Miss Power (voiced by Glee’s Jane Lynch) is the antagonist during this four-episode story arc and comes forth as incredibly hostile and mean, despite being someone that individuals looked up to previously. Wordgirl is able to defeat Miss Power and sidekick Colonel Giggles Cheeks by speaking in oppositional and direct tones.
These episodes blend seamlessly to provide viewers with a feature-length story, one that will indelibly imprint its morals and messages on anyone that watches. Wordgirl is staying strong, even as the show moves into its fourth season. Check out the PBS website for more information about when the show will come back, along with other information and activities that are related to the show.
With any luck, the messages that are presented viewers during The Rise of Miss Power should keep them away from bullying (and may even allow them to be proactive when they see someone being bullied). There are a considerable amount of solid Wordgirl DVDs, and I believe their inclusion into a family’s library is essential. With a MSRP of $9.99, they can be added on the cheap.
