Brooklyn, NY indie rock superstars Grizzly Bear will headline this year’s Pygmalion Music Festival alongside Dinosaur Jr., a legendary artist with as much relevance now as it had over 25 years ago.

The tastemaking festival, now in its eighth year, will take place in Champaign-Urbana from September 27-29 and will feature notable acts including Cloud Nothings, Tennis, Hospitality, Willis Earl Beal, Frankie Rose, Big Freedia and The Divas, Lord Huron, Julia Holter, Lotus Plaza, Craft Spells, Owen, Oh No Oh My, Zeus, and more.

Further additions to the lineup, including major headliners, will be announced in the upcoming months.

This year the festival will be improving upon its new model of incorporating outdoor shows into its already established history of presenting artists in the best venues around Champaign and Urbana. Whereas last year saw the festival’s first ever outdoor concert for the Polyvinyl Records’ 15 Year Anniversary party as a huge success, this year will see an even bigger and broader approach to the festival weekend. Pygmalion will be presenting not just one, but TWO major outdoor events in 2012. On Friday night, Downtown Urbana will play host to Krannert Center for the Performing Arts’ outdoor stage with a headliner yet to be announced. On Saturday, all day, Downtown Champaign will take center stage, hosting another all day outdoor show, with both Grizzly Bear and Dinosaur Jr. set to anchor the show.. In 2012, the outdoor Saturday concert will feature over 12 acts on two stages, against the gorgeous backdrop of an energized Midwestern small college city.

Early Bird Festival passes go on sale Wednesday May 9, 2012 at 10 a.m. CDT and cost $65. The price will be increased to $75 once Early Bird passes are sold out and then will jump to $85 at a later date. The festival pass guarantees admission into every show at the festival, depending on capacity limitations. Single tickets for every show will be available as well. The on-sale date for those shows and tickets will be announced at a later date as well.

The Pygmalion festival is presented in partnership with Krannert Center for the Performing Arts and sponsored by 88.7 WPCD, Red Bull Music Academy, and Smile Politely – Champaign-Urbana’s Online Magazine.
