We were able to review The Second Time Around last year. I believe that the tracks on As We Go ‘Round the Sun build off of the successes of the previous album, while allowing listeners ample chance to hear a more mature and polished title. The CD starts off with the titular track; Desimone sets up where the album will go as well as where he has been.

This sunny bit of guitar-rock will invite comparisons to Jack Johnson and John Maher, all while Desimone’s vocals tattoo themselves in the minds and hearts of listeners. The instrumental arrangements on this introductory track make for a dense and detailed effort; fans will be glued to their seats for the entirety of this EP. The disc’s second track, The Rapture, has Desimone call back to the work of Matchbox 20 and the Counting Crows.

The Rapture is a radio-worthy track that possesses considerable chops. While listeners can sail away on Desimone’s vocals, I would exhort them to pay attention to the instrumentation that is present here. It possesses a robustness that stands well to repeat listening. The penultimate track U & I is a perfect example of this, with the bouncy nature of the track reminiscent of a Maroon 5 or a “Glass Houses”-era Billy Joel. Suspicious Minds (a cover of the track famously performed by Elvis) is the final track on As We Go ‘Round the Sun; Desimone is able to make the song his with amazing vocals and a scintillating arrangement that bounces from alternative, surf, and even psychedelic music. Make it a point to check out Desimone’s new album and see him wherever he may be touring.

Top Tracks: The Line on My Horizon, Suspicious Minds
