Tu Fawning’s sophomore album A Monument arrived in stores today via City Slang. The album has been earning strong reviews both here and abroad, with Portland Monthly writing, “A Monument is a seductive, darkly energetic, wintry pop that demonstrates a band growing confidently into its own sound”, and Uncut calling it “Excellent, weird, monumental, and experimental US rock.” A full album stream of A Monument is also available all week via AOL Music’s Spinner: http://music.aol.com/new-releases-full-cds/spinner#/13.
The band, which is currently on tour in Europe, will hit the road stateside next month for a handful of dates. Following a June 8th hometown record release show at Holocene, Tu Fawning will tour the west coast beginning June 20th at Brick and Mortar in San Francisco, CA and wrapping up June 30th at the Sunset Tavern in Seattle, WA. The band will then head out on a co-headlining tour with AU in July and August, launching at 7th Street Entry in Minneapolis, MN, and running through August 5th at the Black Cat in Washington, DC. That tour now includes a July 30th show at The Drake in Toronto, ON, as well as previously announced shows at the Mercury Lounge in New York, NY on August 2nd and at Glasslands in Brooklyn, NY on August 3rd. Led by Corrina Repp and Joe Haege (31Knots), Tu Fawning expands upon the dark, vaudevillian vibes of their 2010 debut LP Hearts On Hold with A Monument. The album marks the first release written and recorded collaboratively as the four-piece of Repp, Haege, Liza Reitz, and Toussaint Perrault, who came together shortly after the duo of Repp and Haege returned from Tu Fawning’s first tour. A Monument is steeped in the band’s love of music from around the world, and wastes no time making its impact with the dynamic opening trio of “Anchor” (video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-AVopM4mdQ; free MP3 download here), the warped R&B/soul cadence of “Blood Stains”, and the moody and sensual “Wager”. The spooky theatrics of “Build A Great Cliff” and the choral loops and scaling of “Skin and Bone” segue into the mesmeric second half, which closes with the epic “Bones” (free MP3 download here).
