Elvira’s Movie Macabre was a show that originally ran on THIS network and provided viewers with some of the world cheesiest films. Entertainment One has released the various episodes of this show in thematically-related DVD. Wild Women is a two-disc set that contains Untamed Women, The Wild Women of Wongo, Hercules and the Captive Women, and The Wasp Women. With two movies that never had an aired Elvira treatment, Wild Women should be a must buy for any of eir fans. The overall quality of each of these films varies considerably due to their age, but all are eminently viewable.

I feel that Hercules and the Captive Women is the best inclusion on Wild Women. This 1961 film is fifty years old and showcases a considerably different approach to film than that currently taken. The title does not have a referent in any mythology that I can recall, but the sheer magnitude of Hercules’ actions belies its budget status. Reg Park and Fay Spain are the leading actors in this film, and do their best to make a mundane production into a one of demi-gods and men. The title is bad (but in the best possible way); it is perhaps the perfect cheeseball film for any sort of party or get-together.

Entertainment One has released the various episodes of Elvira’s Movie Macabre at an incredibly cheap price (Wild Women can be purchased for about $12 on online retailers); here’s to hoping that they can continue to plum the depths of bad cinema and allow Elvira the chance to break them down. This is what value titles should be – a ton of movies with a good transfer for a low price. Pick up the various Elvira’s Movie Macabre film from your local video store or from the aforementioned online retailers.
