Celebrated New York rock band HOPEWELL will release an EP of new material titled Another Music on September 11 via Tee Pee Records. The first single from the new effort will be a cover of Brian Eno‘s “Needle In The Camel’s Eye” featuring Mark Gardener of eternally cool, seminal shoegaze band RIDE on lead vocals. A deluxe 7″ single of the track will come bundled with an EP of five new tracks that explore HOPEWELL‘s noisy ’90’s roots as well as its more recent penchant for cinematic kraut rock sculptures.

HOPEWELL‘s Another Music EP is a collection of songs culled from an endless recording project that began in 2009 during a tour and special appearance alongside My Bloody Valentine. HOPEWELL recorded a handful of covers intended to feature David Baker (Mercury Rev‘s original singer, who had disappeared from music 15 years earlier) on lead vocals. Dave showed up but, in the end, (for reasons he was unable to articulate) declined to participate. Determined to work with one of their shoegaze heroes, the band reached out to Mark Gardener, lead singer of the genre defining RIDE. The happy result is Another Music‘s lead cut; a cover of Brian Eno‘s “Needle in the Camel’s Eye” (from his 1974 album “Here Come the Warm Jets”) featuring Gardener‘s amazing voice. Another Music also features the catchy, Clinic-esque track “The King & The Canary”, the chaotic transcendental drone of “The Six Knowables” and two tracks assembled from found sounds and excerpts of previous records, including recordings made at the famed Tarbox Road Studios (Flaming Lips, MGMT, etc.) augmented by the insane outsider skronk of avant-garde saxophonist Mark Marinoff (Chemical Brothers). Hearing is believing!

“We were so excited that Mark agreed to sing on our song we build a whole EP around it,” says HOPEWELL‘s Jason Russo. “Another Music is designed to draw you in with a couple of catchy songs then lead you out past the buoys into deeper water.”

A music video for “Needle In The Camel’s Eye” directed by Art Boonparn (The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Cold Cave) is in the works and will premiere soon. HOPEWELL will perform at a special Another Music EP release party, set for Saturday, September 8 at Brooklyn’s Cameo Gallery. U.S. live dates in support of Another Music are also expected (whispers are that HOPEWELL will team up with RIDE for what will surely be highly anticipated live appearances!). In perfect confluence, the release of the Another Music EP coincides with the 20th anniversary of RIDE‘s “Going Blank Again” tour and the deluxe edition reissues of the band’s influential back catalog.
