ABOUT CLAES CEM:
If you ask Claes how best to experience his music, he will smile and say, “Join me at my next concert!” His live performance has been shaped by a life touring the road, connecting with new audiences from the Highlands of Scotland to the Turquoise Sea of the Caribbean.

Although he’s traveled widely, playing with musicians from all over the world, his childhood was spent in Scandinavia, where he grew up listening to artists such as Paul Simon, Sting, Dave Matthews and John Mayer.

Performing started early at the age of 8 when Claes first picked up his mother’s guitar. Being left-handed, he took a cue from Jimmy Hendrix, stringing the guitar upside down. This worked well, until his mother got fed up with not being able to play her own instrument, at which point Claes taught himself to play right handed.

Since then Claes has been honing his pure, guitar driven, and accessible music. In addition to winning “Best Singer” at the 2008′s Emergenza contest in Copenhagen, and touring with the Scottish band “Injuns”, 2009 also saw the release of a new single “Emotional Home,” which brought Claes to the attention of Grammy Award winning engineer/producer Carlos Bedoya. Carlos and Claes then collaborated on the EP “Rosie,” the title song of which played on national radio in Denmark.

Carlos’s past collaborators range from megastars like Mick Jagger, Missy Elliot to Beyonce. Together, Carlos and Claes are now working on a new album project, tentatively called the Momentum Project to be released on American Soillater this year.

Claes has worked on finding the right sound and a lyrical world that would fit for his new solo album “The Momentum project an international collaboration” and the first 3 songs were recorded at producer Scott Matthew’s (Elvis Costello, Van Morrison) studio in Mill Valley. This session included one of Claes’ biggest idols, the american folk icon, mandolinist David Grisman.

The recording and songwriting for the Momentum project has now brought Claes to Nashville and where he has tracked the rest of the album.
