Some college kids spend their winter break just hanging out. But the members of Brooklyn, NY band ON THE FIFTY spent their 2012 break realizing a dream: recording a record with their musical hero. The resulting debut 5-track E.P., entitled Fast Hands, Bad Timing is due out September 18th, 2012 with distribution from CEN/RED/Sony.

The musical hero who produced the E.P. is none other than Anthony Raneri, frontman of the NYC punk band Bayside. Given the age of the band (all 21 years and under, still in college), it’s surprising how epic, how involving both the music and lyrics are on Fast Hands, Bad Timing. Raneri’s visceral production techniques give the songs a lingering urgency. “The band is just at the beginning – they haven’t toured, they haven’t made a record, but you can learn these things,” recalled Raneri. “I heard some things in their demo, some musical preferences you could call an X Factor, and that’s a thing that you can’t learn.”

Guitarist/frontman Tim Dolan was blown away by the experience of working with the band’s musical hero. “We’re huge fans of Bayside, their music has meant so much to us,” said Dolan. “It was incredible to learn from him, he taught us so much about performing, getting sounds, and putting everything we had into the record.” Guitarist Tom Dambro continued, “We have lots of influences, but no mistake, we’re our own band, and Anthony helped get that out of us and onto the record.”
