BFS Entertainment has released Ain’t Misbehavin, the classic musical about wartime London. This iteration of the production features Robson Green (Waterloo Road, Mount Pleasant) and Jerome Flynn (Game of Thrones), and originally made it onto airwaves in three parts in 1997. This is not the Ain’t Misbehavin that aired in the mid-nineties, but focuses on the troubles and travails of two band leaders. Along the way, they run afoul of a war and a set of gangsters. This comedy takes a number of cues from the comedic styles that were big in the middle twentieth century, albeit with an updating to the (then) current period.

The visual quality of this print is solid; despite the show originally airing in 1997, there is little present that would point to the date of the filming. In the same fashion, the audio track that is presented to viewers ensures that every utterance will be heard.  The show itself is made stronger through the costuming and diction styles.  There seems to be a spot-on recreation of the fashions and uniforms from the period, while the language itself takes the parlance from the period, sprinkling it around just enough to lend some credence to the show.

Check out the website linked above for more information about the great work that BFS Entertainment has done and will be continuing to do in the new year. A little bit of information: Green and Flynn had a musical career (lead by Simon Cowell) that was egged on through their masterful singing during Ain’t Misbehavin. The track, a version of Unchained Melody, sold nearly two million copies in the United Kingdom.
