Slightly Stoopid has been riding high since their seventh studio recording, Top of the World, was released earlier this year. It entered the Billboard 200 at No. 13, Billboard‘s Independent Albums chart at No. 3, and the Rock Albums and Alternative Albums charts at a peak position of No. 4. Now, the band is pleased to announce the video for the album’s title track, which had its  online debut on VEVO.com today!

The gritty, urban video stars comedian/actor/cult hero Tommy Chong, one half of the pot-loving pair Cheech & Chong. Shot on location in Los Angeles; Bethlehem, PA; Jones Beach, NY; and Pittsburgh, PA by director Andrew Anthony, the video is now one of the band’s favorites, despite some hectic filming conditions.  In fact, the shooting of the opening scene almost didn’t happen, after the classic car meant to be used broke down on the way to pick up Chong and guest star Norwood Fisher of Fishbone.  A true professional, Chong persevered and rolled with the program; but the only thing he was actually able to “roll” was a strawberry tobacco blunt – during the classic car breakdown, someone’s stash was lost in the shuffle!    Slightly Stoopid previously worked with Chong last year when he hosted their web special, “Live At Roberto’s” TRI Studios, which featured collaborations with Bob Weir, Ivan and Ian Neville of Dumpstaphunk and Don Carlos of Black Uhuru.

Top of the World also boasts several noteworthy guest stars on the record, including G. Love, Angelo Moore of Fishbone, reggae legend Barrington Levy, Don Carlos, Chali 2na of Jurassic 5, and hit-maker Angela Hunte. In addition to drawing these top artists to their recording sessions, the band has also been earning significant critical acclaim for the fruits of those sessions. Relix raved that Top of the World is “their most ambitious work yet.” NPR Music states, “If you like your hemp grown close to the beach, this is your soundtrack,” while Yahoo! Music simply calls Top of the World a sonic knockout…” Regarding the title track, tastemaker radio station KROQ hails it as having “the laid back fusion vibe that has been the cornerstone of Slightly Stoopids sound since they were initially discovered by the late Bradley Nowell of Sublime.”
