Vamps is one of the few vampire movies that have been released in the last five years to consider the real-life ramifications of being a vampire and showcase a comedic light on these foibles. Krysten Ritter (Breaking Bad, Gravity) and Alicia Silverstone are the titular couple Stacy and Goody, who feed upon the hearts and life forces of the men that they meet. Their arrangement is threatened when Stacy starts to fall for the dashing progeny of those that wish to kill eir. Goody is not left off of the hook, as a former flame makes eirself known in a major way. With strife brewing from every angle, these two vampires may just find the sharp end of the stake.
The cast of Vamps is rounded out with the inclusion of Richard Lewis, Marilu Henner, Sigourney Weaver, and Kristen Johnson.

Director Amy Heckerling (Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Look Who’s Talking) imbues each of characters with their own motivations and personalities in a way that few of the current generation of films could honestly do.

The light-hearted nature of Vamps makes this film a modern classic; the overall situations and interactions made between the main characters and the supporting cast makes this a title that would work just as well in the eighties as it does in 2012. Make sure to pick this DVD out for anyone that is a fan of Silverstone or of supernatural-themed romantic comedies. The title bucks a great many of the genre restrictions of the romcom genre, so I’d strongly recommend it to anyone that can appreciate a blend of comedy and drama.
