Few bands are able to establish their sound in the space of a few tracks, but My Secret Island are able to show a considerable amount of their facets on this release. Their new maxi single contains four tracks – three versions of their latest single, I Miss The Day, and a cover of the classic Sheila. I Miss The Day is a radio-worthy track that links together the work of Rush with contemporary rock styles. Eminently singable and hooky as hell, My Secret Island will have listeners stand up and take notice.

The versions of I Miss The Day beyond the original – The Dark, Ghost in the Guitar – could easily be different tracks on their own. Unlike many electronic remixes, the tracks have been given different tempos, arrangements, and will appease fans of different styles. The Ghost in the Guitar version elicits comparisons to a mélange of Interpol and The Strokes, while The Dark version provides listeners with a more complex and emotive track than either The Ghost in the Guitar version or the original iteration of the track. My Secret Island keeps the energy high with this release, while the vocals provide a similarly strongly strong and forceful addition to the track.

The eclectic style of My Secret Island separates them from other bands currently trying to make a living; the act creates styles rather than blindly follows them. Make it a point to check out this release whenever you get a moment, and add their Facebook for the latest information about the band. Here’s to hoping they can make it to American shores and can cut an LP that contains the same frenetic energy.
