La Crosse, WI trio PORCUPINE organically forges its singular brand of rock ‘n’ rock reminiscent of late-90s alternative without compromise.  “We are kind of in the middle of nowhere – Midwest, small college town. To me, that works in our favor,” lead vocalist/guitarist Casey Virock says. Unyielded by what’s trendy, Virock with Dave Reinders (bass) and Brian Kerr (drums) continue to derive some of their inspiration from 70′s classic rock and 60′s British psychedelica, somehow resulting in a Swervedriver-meets-Queen of The Stone Age sound.

Out on Hang Up and SP Records, “Witness to A Chase Scene” is a testament of Porcupine’s musical expertise – a grinding guitar riff injected with adrenaline preempts Virock’s smoothly doubled vocals that cascade atop closely calculated distortions and reverb.  At the chorus, Virock belts out “you’ve been chosen / now collect your spoils” with control and authority.  Porcupine successfully mixes math rock, shoegaze, and indie rock with Seattle grunge guitar to create this radio-friendly single.

While building a local fan base, the band plays a lot of gigs in some of the surrounding larger cities in the Midwest.  Porcupine has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with 18th Dye, Mission of Burma, Meat Puppets, Black Box Revelation and more.  In addition to shows in Minnesota and their native Wisconsin, Porcupine will also perform at the Midwest Music Fest on Friday, April 19th.
