This Blu-Ray captures the creative process of McCartney through the time spent on 2012’s Kisses From the Bottom. What viewers will immediately see is the sheer looseness of McCartney. Coupled with this friendly nature, an utter mastery of music pervades each of the jam sessions that occur. The sheer star power that is present here is astonishing, with Eric Clapton, Diana Krall, Stevie Wonder, and John Pizzarelli contributing their unique style to McCartney’s inimitable approach to music.

The tracks that are captured here a number of songs from Kisses From the Bottom, along with some must-see additional cuts. The production of tracks like Bye Bye Blackbird, My Valentine, and My Very Good Friend The Milkman showcases each constituent element, establishing a feel that privileges none but highlights all. Perhaps the most compelling part of this Blu-Ray comes in the interviews conducted with McCartney and Diana Krall. Two of the biggest musicians in the world invite viewers in to their own world, showcasing rare insights into the creative process and what it actually means to play alongside musicians of such an unsurpassed caliber.

There are some bonus features to be had, including a 40 page book that contains a number of stellar photographs from band practice and live efforts. All in all, the Live Kisses Blu-Ray is a tremendous value for its $30 (or about) price tag; it provides Beatles and McCartney-specific fans with an unparalleled look into this period of McCartney’s music. Check out the Eagle Rock website for more information about their releases, both in their library and on the docket for a 2013 (and beyond) release.
