With over 2 million views on YouTube, independent sales over 30,000 albums, a 2013 European Blues Award, and winning Best Solo Performer at the Memphis Blues Challenge, it appears that the entire world is now discovering Matt Andersen.  Earlier this week, True North Records announced the digital release of a special preview EP of songs from his album Weightless, being released digitally in the US and Canada on February 4, 2014 with the physical release on April 15 throughout the rest of the world.  Four Songs from Weightless EP will be available for fans worldwide exclusively through streaming services Rdio, Spotify, Slacker, Zik, Deezer, and YouTube, as well as being available for download on NoiseTrade.com.  The tracks featured on the EP are “Alberta Gold”, “I Lost My Way”, “So Easy”, and “My Last Day”.

Dusty with some shimmer, the new songs are infused with Andersen’s unparalleled dexterity on the guitar, cut with moments of songwriterly reflection. With Grammy-winning producer Steve Berlin (Los Lobos, Great Big Sea, Tragically Hip) acting as grace note behind the boards, Andersen’s command of blues and soul are tempered in just the right places.
You can check out the first song off the EP, “Alberta Gold,” available to stream on YouTube HERE.
The much-lauded songwriter who hails from the blue collar community of Perth-Andover, New Brunswick is known for his electrifying live shows and has been steadily building his fanbase in Canada as well as around the world.  2014 promises to be a banner year with the announcement of over 250 confirmed dates worldwide – 60 across Canada and the US – including stops at Toronto’s Massey Hall and New York City’s Rockwood Music Hall as part of the APAP Conference.
Matt’s narrative-driven writing cuts through the soul, blending blues and folk, encompassed in total honesty.  He takes listeners on a ride with his diverse musical styles, skilled guitar work, and over-the-top showmanship.  “I’m not trying to change anyone’s lives in a big way, but I love it when [listeners] really get involved in the music,” says Matt, who won three 2012 Maple Blues Awards, the 2013 European Blues Award for Best Solo/Acoustic Act, and received a British Blues Award nomination, among many others.  “When people get involved, it really makes it a great night – for everyone.”  Through his exhilarating performances and connection to his audience, Matt continues to work hard and tell the stories he was born to tell.
