The titular track on Be Careful What You Wish For is an energetic metal track that ties together Lemmy, Ozzy, David Lee Roth, and Axl Rose into something that is contemporary while perfecting the art of an earlier period. This same frenetic style continues into Little Green Fairy. While the band is firmly settled into the hard rock / hair metal format, I feel that there is a thrash (Suicidal Tendencies, Anthrax) and punk (Danzig, Dead Kennedys) style that further fills out AUG’s unique style.
The Devils Rejects showcases the band’s ability to musically stop on a dime; the guitars and vocals drop out to allow the drums ample time to shine; this solo is mirrored later by a similarly sizzling bit of axe virtuosity. The super-sonic vocals that are threaded throughout The Devils Rejects make this a no brainer for rock rotation. Light of Day comes out with Flesh & Blood-era guitar work and a set of melodic vocals that provide an additional level of instrumental intensity to the composition.
All I Can Be is another bright spot on Be Careful What You Wish For, with AUG taking a straight-forward stylistic turn that re-focuses and re-charges the album.Every element of the band is on the top of their game, and the resulting track is a furious and fun composition. AUG are an act that create a cohesive and coherent composition that works as well in 2014 as it would in 1989.
