Patterson Pumpkin is the first pumpkin-focused beer that we have had the chance to review so far this year. The imperial aspect to this pumpkin ale allows the beer to have a proper bite to it instead of focusing on the sweetness of the pumpkin. The beer pours a darkish amber / orange with a thick, off-white head that is slow to dissipate. The 48 IBU mark of Patterson Pumpkin allows a slight hop bite to be present, adding an additional complexity to the pumpkin beer style. By breaking free of the constraints of what pumpkin beer could be, Full Tilt has created something that could work well throughout the entirety of the year. The higher ABV (9.0%) of Patterson Pumpkin is hidden through the sweetness imbued upon the beer by the inclusion of the pumpkin, making for an eminently drinkable effort. It may be early in the fall season, but I honestly think that Patterson Pumpkin may be the best pumpkin beer that you’ll find around.

Visit the Full Tilt website for more information about Patterson Pumpkin and the wide variety of the different FT efforts. If you find yourself in Baltimore, make sure to begin your day at the Lexington Market and find your way over to a store that stocks Full Tilt’s efforts later on in the night.
