Even the best of us can suffer from a lack of motivation and concentration at times. Although you might be brilliant at your job, there are a number of reasons why your performance levels could have dropped.

Whether it’s stress from your personal life, a lack of sleep leading to decreased focus and motivation, or you’re simply in need of a break – there is always usually a logical reason behind why your standards of performance in work are dropping. If you’ve received a performance review at work and it’s not looking as good as you’d hoped it would, read on to find out how you can improve and get back to delivering a standard of work that everyone’s happy with again.

Take a Break

Sometimes, standards of performance drop simply because we’ve been doing something for too long and need a little bit of time to relax and clear our heads. If you’ve not had any time off work for a long while, a few days or even weeks off to have a rest both physically and psychologically may be exactly what you need. Speak to your manager or HR department about booking some time off work.

Supplements

If you’re feeling really tired, or are in need of a bit of a boost, there are a range of energy supplements on the market that could be perfect for your needs. From herbal supplements such as Ginkgo Biloba to prescription medication such as Modafinil and Modavigil, it’s easy to find something to take that will provide you with the added motivation and focus that you need. If you’re thinking of taking a supplement to help you improve your work performance, it’s advisable to speak to a doctor or other health professional beforehand to ensure you’re aware of the dosage and any possible side effects.

Be Healthier

Sometimes our diet can have a detrimental effect on our work performance, so if you’re finding that you’re underperforming at work it could be because you’re eating too many unhealthy foods and not drinking enough water. If you skip breakfast, you will find that eating a nutritious breakfast each morning will not only make you feel a lot more alert and energetic throughout the day, you’ll also notice your performance levels increase. Staying properly hydrated will also keep your energy levels raised by flushing toxins out of your body, meaning that you’ll feel more awake and motivated to work to the best of your ability.

If you’ve managed to get over a performance decline at work, or have any advice for those who are trying to improve their performance levels, we’d love to hear from you in the comments.
