Michael Douglas, long past leading man status, is finding a great second act playing the villain. Beyond the Reach is one of his creepiest turns yet as the bad guy.

beyond-the-reach

He plays a rich businessman who goes with a local tracker (played by Jeremy Irvine) out to the Mojave Desert to hunt big game. Douglas’ character accidentally shoots another local man, buries the body and then tries to kill his guide by making him walk through the scorching desert. The cat-and-mouse thriller, though wildly over-the-top and crammed with every rich guy cliché imaginable, is still a fun hour and a half and Irvine does a commendable job playing against a snarling, creepy Douglas.
