The Liquorsmiths This Book Belongs To EP Review

San Diego’s The Liquorsmiths has crafted a six-song mini-album that provides listeners with a wide array of styles and approaches. The release opens up with Coy With Me, an effort that links together the folk-rock of the sixties, the singer-songwriter tradition of the nineties (Bright Eyes, The Wallflowers), and a current and contemporary sound that will appease fans of X Ambassadors and Imagine Dragons. What The Liquorsmiths do on this EP is create a warmth and depth to each effort that will resound loudly with listeners long after the title has ceased to spin. Get Well Sound has punchy and emphatic drums, a slinky and alluring set of vocals, and a delicate guitar uniting to establish something special. With enough meat on the album’s bones for musicophiles and hooks a plenty for those craving a catchy song, The Liquorsmiths are able to speed through This Book Belongs To quickly. The Liquorsmiths This Book Belongs To EP Review

Iris’ Song is a refreshing of the Paul Simon (Still Crazy After All These Years-era) sound with just enough Damien Jurado and Jason Mraz interspersed through the track. The intelligent guitar work builds off of Radiohead and Lucero, beginning a thread that continues through Devil I Do. The close-knit sound achieved by The Liquorsmiths here destroys the conception that later cuts on a release are weaker; the progression achieved here is delectable. Day By Day completes This Book Belongs To, slowing things down and allowing the band to end the release in an epic fashion.

The This Book Belongs To is available beginning on August 25th. For the latest in information about The Liquorsmiths and their upcoming music and tour dates, visit their Facebook and domain.
