Shamir has released a mini-film for his next single “In For The Kill”.

The short takes the infamous “Balloon boy” UFO hoax as inspiration, and reimagines the story with Shamir manning the ship. He takes flight from the world to quietly pursue his art – only to leave panic and confusion in his wake. Directed by Anthony Sylvester, who worked with Shamir on previous videos “On The Regular” and “Darker,” the mini-film is Shamir’s wry take on his own ascent.

“‘In For The Kill,’” Shamir says, “is about making sacrifices to do things that make you happy. For me, that’s making and playing music. I had to leave a lot of things back in Vegas in order to do music – family, friends, certain trinkets I collect because I’m a very sentimental person. When you make music, you almost have to disappear and go deep inside yourself so that you can come back and give people something that feels honest to you. ‘In For The Kill’ is a song for me to show that what I’m doing is not an easy thing. It’s something that I have to work hard towards.”

This fall, Shamir will make his way across North America supported by the LA-based pop artist HANA and the Canadian artist Allie X. There will also be a few surprise special performances alongside the tour that show the many sides of Shamir. He’ll be performing for the first time in his hometown of Las Vegas at Life Is Beautiful festival, as well as making his first appearance in Mexico at Corona Capital. Shamir will join Marina and the Diamonds – one of his favorite artists – for a short run of U.S. dates, and will also hop across the pond to play a run of shows with Years & Years in the UK.
