Angels We Have Heard On High adds considerable depth to this holiday classic; the dense arrangements of this effort will stand up to repeat listens. The most important part of this composition has to be the narrative that is weaved through the playing; there does not have to be anything in the way of vocals to have listeners experience a full tale.

What Child Is This is darkly emotive and brooding in its initial registers before moving into something that is quite like a portrait. While the track may break the five-minute mark, the number of distinct movements that can be discerned here make the track go by in a blink of an eye.

We Three Kings of Orient Are is a high-water point for Alchymie on her Midnight Clear. The track begins fairly close to the traditional style which one will hear in public spaces through the season, but moves into a wholly different realm as the effort continues. Fans will be take to a wholly different space than they began.

Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming is the concluding track on Midnight Clear, and the composition imbues upon the release a finality. This is the closing of the season, and Alchymie establishes an effort that is a little calm, collected, and maybe even a little wistful. With a number of other holiday standards covered with this release (Good King Wenceslas, O Christmas Tree, and Auld Lang Syne), Midnight Clear should be the first purchase of the upcoming season.

Midnight Clear is available for purchase on iTunes, Amazon, and CDBaby. For more information about the latest updates, news, and information from Alchymie, visit their social media profiles.

I once again find myself personally spending way too much time both reading and posting comments.
