New Belgium and Ben and Jerry’s have collaborated to make a delectably sweet and refreshing brown ale. The beer pours with a mahogany red to burnished brown color. There is a small amount of tannish head that remains on the beer for a decent length of time. The thicker mouthfeel of this beer is luxurious, with hints of cocoa and vanilla pointing through at points to cut through more of the sugary elements of the beer.new-belgium The small amount of carbonation that is present here does well to lift up the beer and keep it something that individuals will want to finish. As one continues along with their beer, hints of the eponymous caramel can be discerned alongside bits of coffee, biscuits, and some nuts come into focus. Milk and a bit of cream adds a bassy voice to this symphony, representing a cohesive and full set of flavors that will have imbibers as interested in the final swallows of the Salted Caramel Brownie Brown Ale as they were when they first opened the effort.

The richness of the brownie can be discerned here, while there is a small amount of hoppy bitterness that comes forth at points. While this is ostensibly a “salted” caramel, this does not have the salt presence to the degree that a gose would have. This collaborative beer would be a perfect pick up for anyone that is a fan of brown ales, porters, and stouts; the richness and fullness of this beer is something that will have individuals coming back for more as the temperature continues to drop.
