Shark Bait is Miami Brewing Company’s wheat beer that separates itself from the pack with the inclusion of mangoes. The beer pours with a hazy golden color and a fair amount of white head that sits on top of the effort pretty consistently. There is only a minor amount of lacing that appears at points during one’s journey with the beer, even as the foam on the top of the beer remains until the last gulp. Shark Bait’s nose has a little bit of a hop presence and a bit of astringency that finds its way into the initial sip.

Where many wheat beers are fairly mundane efforts, Shark Bait is a refreshing take on the style. The strong mango presence in the beer makes this the perfect thirst-quenching effort. As the beer continues to reach room temperature, a greater amount of malt and wheat elements can be discerned. The subtle amount of sweetness grows into something greater with hints of grapefruit and coriander that peek through; this is a beer that continues to grow, evolve, and change as one continues along. It is this rich flavor profile that makes this into such a good session beer; one will be able to drink three or four Shark Baits over the course of the night. Miami’s Shark Bait would be a perfect beer to slide into for fans of witbiers, hefeweizens, pale ales and even traditional lagers and pilsner; this multi-faceted effort simply has a variety of distinct flavors to appease even the most discerning of palettes.
