Winter Camp is described as a winter warmer old ale by Strike Brewing Company, and is the perfect example of a beer that changes its spots from the beginning to the ending of each 22 ounce bottle. The beer initially pours with a dark brown to reddish coloration and has a fair amount of off-white head. There are strong malt elements and a bit of hop bitterness that come forth immediately after the effort is poured into a glass. Winter Camp is a success as it avoids many issues that are typically present with the winter warmer style (e.g. too much reliance on dark fruit flavors, an overall heaviness of sweet elements). Winter Camp

The smoothness that is present in the second half of Winter Camp is fantastic, with a luxurious mouth feel yielding hints of dark fruits, brown sugar, caramel, and spices including nutmeg and cinnamon. The initial rush of alcoholic bite is muted, making the remainder of a Winter Camp dangerously drinkable. This wide array of flavors ensures that one will continually be excited in the last gasps of the beer; Strike’s Winter Camp is able to keep the overall presentation of this beer coherent and cohesive, rather than having the brew veer into a single-note song. Winter Camp is the perfect effort to warm one up during a particularly cold night but can be successfully paired with strong cheeses, salty morsels, and dried meats to highlight oth the winter warmer and the paired plate.
