Winter Ale (Alaskan Brewing)

This year it seems as if winter ales have attempted to go myriad directions but have not seemed to really have an outstanding effort. Alaskan Brewing has created a Winter Ale that takes on a great many twists and turns of the old ale style without having to ratchet up the ABV of the beer.

This means that there is a wonderfully warming flavor that is contributed by the inclusion of roasted malts along with a spiciness that links together hints of burnt popcorn, coffee, nutmeg and allspice. What results is a beer that ties together the winter warmer format with porters, stouts and with just enough in the way of bitterness to keep the overall experience light and refreshing each time one takes a sip.

This beer would do perfectly paired with rich fare including duck, pork, beef roast and any sort of cuisine that has a dominant flavor palettes. This means that Alaskan Brewing’s Winter Ale would do well with Indian and Mexican cuisine and buttresses any salty snacks.
