Won’t Go With The Flow is the first track on Robert Nix’s latest release, Once in a Blue Moon. The track ties together the sounds of acts like The Cure, Psychedelic Furs and Depeche Mode. There is a complexity to the composition here that ensures that listeners will be able to pick out new twists and turns each time they play the single. The intricate instrumentation is a common thread that is weaved through the entirety of Once in a Blue Moon, as the eponymous track immediately draws listeners in with contemplative arrangements and a wonderful give and take between the vocal and musical sides.

Time To Make Up Your Mind changes the overall sound of Nix up; the song sails on a more seventies, progressive rock style. Little more is needed during this effort than Nix’s vocals and guitars. A narrative is created by the intersection of these two elements; this is a voluminous composition that provides fans with tremendous story in a small (2:55) package. What Will You Do(Out Of School)? is a late-album track that is able to showcase an emotive, chugging bass line imbuing the track with a distinctly different sound than had previously been broached up to this point on Once in a Blue Moon. Can’t Get To Sleep, the final track on Nix’s newest album, has a harder rock edge to the track; bits of Midnight Oil and INXS can be discerned here as the album spins to a close. While the songs on Once in a Blue Moon come forth with a wide array of styles and genres, Nix’s talented hand is able to make each song contribute to a greater whole.
