Professor Longhair – Live in Chicago

New Orleans legend Professor Longhair (ne’ Henry Roeland Byrd) may have died close to 40 years ago, but labels are still uncovering and releasing flawless live sessions the piano great recorded over the years and “Live in Chicago” is no exception. Recorded at the University of Chicago Folk Festival in 1976, this eight-track collection is one of his best posthumous sets so far.

Though it doesn’t include, “Tipitina,” one of his best known songs, it does include a stellar “Big Chief” and flawless renditions of “Mess Around,” “Got My Mojo Working” and “Mardi Gras in New Orleans.”

Ideal for those who have worshipped the good professor for a lifetime or those completely unfamiliar with his work, “Live in Chicago” is perfect for any music fan out there. Long live the Professor.
