Sophie Peters

Sophie Peters is able to build off of the pop sounds of the 1970s with tracks like This Is Not Love. A lush, funk/soul sound creates a backdrop that highlights Peters’ vocals in all of the right places. One will be amazed at the technical skill brought to the single by the backing band; the taut players here make for something that has a ropy bass line, punctual drums, and emotive synths.  I’ve Got A Feeling slows things up and allows listeners to focus on the deliberate arrangements that comprise this single. The stripped-down style embraced during this composition situates the song much more in the traditional gospel style. The track is abler to impact listeners much more intently due to the connections that fans will make with Peters’ intimate and passionate vocals. The narrative aspect of these vocals further increase the replay value of the song, something that ensures that fans will stick with Peters long after they would put down similar sorts of recordings.

Please Don’t Hurt Me is another tremendously effecting song by Peters, and from its beginning, listeners will be impressed by the breaking down of time signature constraints. The bit of blues seems pulled out the Torch Song tradition of the early 1930s, but there is something much more current and contemporary that is present in Peters’ vocals. It is during this effort that fans really see the intricate narratives that Peters weaves. Tribute To My Mother keeps a slow tempo but spins the overall sound in a wholly new direction. The  ballad sort of approach taken here is a great addition to the palette that Peters can utilize on subsequent listens. For more information about this performer, check out her Unsigned profile.
