Janey Street “(I’m Not) The Girl I Used to Know”

Janey Street creates a tender and complex track with her latest single, (I’m Not) The Girl I Used to Know. The stripped-down instrumentation that represents the backing beat is assertive with little more than a guitar and set of drums. When the guitars are given the spotlight, they shine; sizzling licks provide a greater set of urgency for the track’s second half. Janey’s vocals are warm and inviting while having a bit of sorrow and acceptance playing at the end of the track. With a sound that refreshes U2 and mid-nineties alternative, (I’m Not) The Girl I Used to Know is one of our favorite tracks of the year.
