von Konow - Cosmic

von Konow’s tremendous emotional depth is showcased from the onset of his new single, Cosmic. The shift that the track takes from a vocal-dominated one into something that deftly blends together new wave, goth, and indie-pop styles is shocking, but the sheer talent of von Konow is such that the resulting effort is coherent. Synths are weaved in with authoritative drums on Cosmic; nods to artists as diverse as Of Mice and Men, The Tea Party, The Cure and fun. can all be heard here. Even with such prominent influences presented during Cosmic, one cannot deny the unique style of von Konow that bubbles throughout the song.

The production of Cosmic allows each of the track’s disparate elements an opportunity to shine. An extended instrumental section provides listeners with something to mull over, while imbuing Cosmic with enough energy to keep fans interested until the final strains of the single. This instrumental side of things has multiple layers; the percussion tattoos the track’s melodies deep into listeners’ minds as the synth flitters over this deliberate sound. When the vocals keep back in to high gear, there is something slightly different. Everything seems that much more focused and on-point, ending the track with an authoritative sound that will have fans clamoring for more from Finland’s own.

The most surprising thing about Cosmic is the sheer depth of the composition. Fans will have to play the single multiple times to hear everything that has been included. It is this replay value that makes this a sure decision to be included on alternative rock radio stations. von Konow’s Lieder is due out on January 13th of next year. A video will be released in short order that adds a further story to an already complex and alluring single.
