Saint Archer has released some stellar offerings in their Tusk & Grain imprint but it was not until their latest bottle released that we had the chance to try them out. The company has just released two variants of a Coffee Porter, a brew that comes in with a wallop. The Brandy barrel-aged version hovers around the 13% mark while the tequila and bourbon barrel-aged variant nearly reaches the 11% mark. This porter pours with a chocolate to dark brown coloration and a small amount of tannish head that is rapid to dissipate. This coffee porter is well-balanced in the sense that the sharpness of the coffee staves off the sweeter tendencies of the style.

This Coffee Porter gives equal amounts of time to the sharpness brought by the time spent in brandy barrels and the richness of the coffee. The beer hides the alcohol burn perfectly creating something that will keep individuals warm from the second they crack open the bottle until that final second when they drain the glass. There is enough in the way of toasted malts and bits of wheat to further vary the experience that one has with each and every sip.  Nut and chicory flavors start to show themselves as Tusk & Grain’s Coffee Porter reaches room temperature. While the overall set of flavors may change from opening to final quaff, each taste of the brew will be alluring due to its rich profile.
