"L.A. Nights" by Ayhan Sahin

The first thing that listeners will hear on L.A. Nights is an assertive, ropy bass line that plays at the bottom of the track. The taut instrumentation makes for a solid backdrop upon which Ayhan’s vocals can shine. The track defies genre conventions well, but listeners can hear odes to seventies easy-listening rock, the supersonic vocals of the Bee Gees. Sahin does well in tying together the last three decades of popular music, with hints of the 1970s, 1980s, and more current and contemporary acts.

Authoritative drums do well to split the track, while Sahin is able to ratchet up the momentum as the track hurtles to the end. A particular note has to go to the guitar work that leads L.A. Nights out, nodding specifically to the work of Santana. The melodies that are inserted within the track’s 3:18 will tattoo themselves deeply into the minds and hearts of listeners. In fact, there are so many twists and turns that are present in the single that fans will continue to find something new even five or ten plays after the initial introduction.

The track succeeds due to its lush production, ensuring that the constituent elements of the instrumentation are able to shine alone as well as part of a greater whole. Make it a point to check out the Young Pals website for additional information about performers on the label and Ayhan himself. Here’s to hoping that a follow up to L.A. Nights is in short order; we’ll be playing this on heavy rotation at NeuFutur headquarters through the end of winter and into the early months of spring.
