Jason Andrew Brown is able to create a sort of pop-country that will have listeners singing along after the disc’s first spin. During Shine Sun Shine, funk, surf rock, and a charismatic set of countrified vocals tattoo their melodies deep into the minds and hearts of listeners. Emptiness is Forever is an effort that anyone that has lost a loved one will be able to understand. During this single, Brown’s vocals take up hints of Adam Duritz and Neil Young, making a heartfelt and emotionally intense plea to fans. A single guitar that pulls together hints of Staind, Alice in Chains, and the acoustic side of Led Zeppelin adds all the musical accompaniment that is needed.

Make Time has a fun rock sound that builds off of the framework of Stabbing Westward and Audio Adrenaline. Jason’s vocals for this outing ferry influences as wide-reaching as Savage Garden and INXS. The guitar / drum dynamic during Make Time makes this a must-listen; the dense and detailed arrangements ensure that listeners will continue to find new inclusions many times after its initial play. Icarus is the concluding effort on Jason Andrew Brown’s self-titled EP, and it delves deep into the progressive rock tradition. Fans need to strap on a set of headphones to become fully engrossed into the musical environment that Brown has created. While the track begins and ends before three minutes have passed, there is an epic sound to this song that will resound loudly with listeners long after the disc has ceased to play.
