David D’Angelo’s “Jade” is one of those efforts that one will need to sit back and properly focus on. The multiple layers and distinct atmosphere that D’Angelo creates here is incredibly dense and complex. There are elements that further the track along (the bassy beat and stellar percussion), but the song continues to innovate with each distinct movement. There are elements that are more R&B, trap, and electronic; the distinct sounds achieved every half-minute or so are surprisingly cogent and coherent by the time one completes Jade. While the song may only be a hair over the three-minute mark, the song represents a space that is much greater. The replay value is off of the charts; spin it and see how lost you can get in the cut.
