A week or so ago, we covered the new Mellah Nix track, Luther The Shooter. We had some time to delve a little bit deeper into Mellah Nix’s discography, and wanted to pull out a few additional tracks which listeners need to search out. Tokeeo is a punch bit of rap that has Mellah Nix create his own style, with nods to 50 Cent, Jay-Z and Plies. The production of this single is deliberate ad focused, providing the perfect sort of accompaniment for Mellah’s flow. Sk8board is a favorite track of ours. From the beginning of the track, Mellah Nix is able to put in rapid-fire flows with a production that keeps things up to a high degree. Here, there are influences from a wide variety of rap, including bits and pieces of Pitbull and Tech N9ne.

Steempot is a perfect call back to the earlier days of rap; the introduction has a hint of “We Fly High” in the blending of 1970s guitars and spoken word, while Real Reflection is a more contemplative and musically intense sort of effort. Samples are used to great effect during these efforts from his Kollage EP. Blak Rose uses repetition to a strong degree, but it is the production and instrumentation this time that sets the track above the other tracks we experienced in the Mellah Nix discography; Mellah’s flow here is unparalleled, a true delight to experience.

Make it a point to check out Mellah Nix’s Soundcloud or Twitter for additional information about this performer. We always love new independent rappers and we were quite impressed with how polished these earlier efforts from Mellah Nix were.
