Indie pop musician Brad Peterson had already put out several well-received albums going back a decade, shared stages with a slew of greats from Jeff Buckley to Radiohead and then a spinal injury left him partially paralyzed. Through years of therapy he was finally able to hold a guitar again, and eventually built up a collection of songs that lead to the powerful “ellipses record”.

You can hear his story of perseverance all over this LP especially in a song like “Unbroken,” (“A bit worn down, yet still own broken,” sings Peterson triumphantly in the chorus). And while you’d expect Peterson to go full emo, layering this collection with songs of woe and pity, it’s quite the opposite. The record is brimming with optimism, strong melodies and plenty of life affirming lyrics (minus the earnestness).

Along with marking his return, “…” is the first LP he has completely produced on his own to the full definition of that term; he wrote all the songs, played all the instruments, engineered and mastered all 13 tracks here.

The result is a satisfyingly cohesive album that brings to mind everyone from Michael Penn to Nick Drake (minus the sad songs).
