Kingston, New York’s Galanos have just released a new album, Deceiver Receiver. The first track on this release, Loneliest of Men, is a raw and stripped-down rock track that builds off of the sound of late-nineties Smashing Pumpkins or early-oughts Muse. There is a dark, brooding sound to this opening effort that will have listeners firmly on the edges of their seats. A smart instrumentation makes good use of each guitar riff and splashy drum hit.

Letters From Home showcases the instrumental side of Galanos. The haunting atmosphere that is crafted with this single provides listeners with a fully-formed environment in which to marvel, before moving into Stunner. Stunner is our pick for the later sections of Deceiver Receiver. The track itself is an unlikely melding of 1970s/1980s goth (Sisters of Mercy, 45 Grave) with the taut instrumentation of 1960s surf rock. Netochka’s vocals here are delightful and provide the release with aa boost to its momentum that keeps listeners as energetic and eager as they were when they first heard the release.

Feel Good is the final track on Deceiver Receiver and closes things up nicely. The dark, tortured sound of the band has all of the fury of Load-era Metallica mixed with the turn of the millennium-era Mortiis. A truly unique track for a truly unique band.
