We’ve been fortunate to review Bend, Oregon’s own Worthy Brewing a number of times over the last few years, and have been uniformly impressed by their offerings. We received a few bottles of their Peace Pipe Porter and loved the fact that the beer was able to have a middle of the road ABV (5.4%) while packing every sip with a tremendously deep set of flavors.

Worthy’s Peace Pipe Porter pours with a deep brown coloration and a small amount of head that quickly dissipates. Hints of cocoa, toasted malt, and grain can all be discerned here from the onset. The beer gradually opens up to yield bits of cracker and a nutty flavor that interacts with the previous notes that one has experienced. A good amount of sweetness is here, but the bit of bitterness that has been included does a lot to make this beer more balanced than other porters on the market. Fans of milk / lactose stouts and of brown ales will find something to appreciate in Peace Pipe.

As the months gradually cool down, having a beer with strong flavors is essential for staving off a chill. Worthy’s seasonal porter can be paired well with strongly-flavored cuisine (Italian, roasts, and burgers are but a few examples). A 22 ounce bottle of Peace Pipe Porter is precisely what the doctor ordered for the rapid-fire pace of the holiday season; this brew will be available through the season. Further information about new products and events can be gleaned from the brewery’s Facebook and Twitter profiles.
