With the nights getting darker and winter well and truly here, there is no better time to redecorate your bedroom to make it cozy.  When it comes to adding some extra cozy touches, there are plenty of things that you could do.  However, in this article, we’re going to take a bit of inspiration from Denmark.  The Danes experience long, cold, and dark winters and they truly know how to create the perfect cozy space.

1. Wood Accents

It doesn’t matter if your bedroom is large or tiny, adding wood accents can really help to evoke the feeling of coziness.  Many of us have visions of log cabins with burning wood fires, and this is perhaps why we associate wood with warmth.  If it’s not possible to add true wood to your home, look for wood inspired wallpapers or paneling – both of which will work well for this purpose.  If you want to make smaller changes, adding wooden mirrors and other decorative elements is the best solution.

2. Low Lights

Lighting is very important when designing a new space. In your bedroom, you’ll want to avoid the harsh, bright white ceiling lights and instead opt for some low lights or mood lighting.  This is not only cozier, but it will help you to sleep better as well.  The Danes also often use candles in their bedroom space.  We recommend buying a scented candle in a pine or birch scent.  Just remember to blow them out before you go to sleep!

3. A Dramatic Bed

If you’ve always wanted a four-poster bed, now is the time to buy one.  Not everyone is a fan of the curtains or frills that surround these, but there are now models available that are more streamlined with no fabric or crossbeams.  Dress your bed with some fleece bedding and a thick quilt.  Visit indreviews.com to find the perfect pillow for your needs as well.  There’s no point in buying a dramatic bed if you’re going to be uncomfortable sleeping in it!

4. Avoid Bold Patterns

If you’re going to change your carpet or wallpaper, avoid bold patterns and opt for something a lot simpler.  The same goes for colors – avoid anything bright and opt for calm and soothing colors.  If you do need to include graphics in your room, try and do this more intimately.  For example, you could add graphic cushions or a bold quilt.  The majority of your room should be neutral, though, as the simpler it is, the easier it will be to fall asleep at night.

5. Luxury Rugs

Finally, it’s also a good idea to invest in a luxury rug.  There is nothing more enjoyable than waking up on a cold morning and standing on a plush fur rug as you step out of bed.  There are plenty of fake fur options available too if you’d prefer.  The bigger, the better.

This winter, why not take some inspiration from the Danes and create that cozy bedroom you’ve been after for years!
