Ten years ago, Alabama punks Vulture Whale turned in a fantastic debut that, well, sadly not many people outside of their scene ever heard. But, the self-titled debut is getting a second chance in the form of a 180-gram vinyl release.

Vulture Whale is the result of members of The Ohms and Verbena combining forces more than a decade ago. Their first effort also happened to be their finest. The influences are as eclectic as you’d expect, everything from classic ‘70s T. Rex and Mott The Hoople style jams, some Petty-esque southern rock vibes and plenty of Drivin’ N Cryin’ influences throughout.

There’s not a weak spot on the album, but there are a handful of tracks the really standout like “Rainbow Lies,” with it’s piano intro fake out, hiding one of the biggest rockers on the album, and the blazing “Shoulda Been Rockin’”. And just when you think you’ve got their sound pegged down, they’ll toss in some funk or even hints of Americana to let keep you guessing.
