Söur Bruthers begin their self-titled EP with Sinkin’ Down, a down and dirty rock track that blends together the Goo Goo Dolls, Thin Lizzy, and Bon Jovi. Assertive drums, sizzling guitar lines, and a truly charismatic set of vocals start this release off with high energy. The immaculate production of this extended play allows each part of the band to pop while crafting music that could easily be heard on college or rock radio stations.

Better Days is a top-tapping track that has the frenetic sound of the Bare Naked Ladies and The Replacement; there is a bit of a homage here to seventies and eighties-era Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. The gritty vocals match the hooky guitar work and thick, ropy bass lines, making this song into one of the high-water marks of this record.  Things take a different path when the Söur Bruthers move into 3 a.m.. A slower tempo provides ample highlighting to the lyrical content while the pianos have the same rich sound of Glass Houses-era Billy Joel. Anyone that has loved and lost will be able to understand the sentiment that the band has placed into this cut.

Release Me is another peak for the Söur Bruthers. This time, the dynamic between the guitars and the drums push each into the stratosphere. The back and forth with these instruments really need to be focused on. When the bass enters into the equation, the effort becomes even more deep. We’d recommend that one strap on their favorite pair of headphones to hear each note as there is so much going on during each second. Few artists are able to come forth and make such a coherent and informative statement with an EP, but the Söur Bruthers make something special with the six songs on this release.
