What Are You Running Away From is the first track on Simon XO’s Covering, and showcases a confident performer that has a stellar production uniting a bevy of different instruments, influences, and sounds. Simon XO has the same hopeful sound of early Oasis or Steven Curtis Chapman.

Waiting For Me To Break begins with booming drums and a distinctive sound that will immediately draw listeners into the release. It’s a bit rare to hear both the instrumental and vocal sides of a composition taking the “A” position, but the back and forth between the two ensures that the finished product is one of our favorites experienced on this EP.

Little Brother is a tremendously effecting track. it is during this cut where listeners will be astonished in the sheer range that Simon XO is able to achieve. The track has a slower tempo to it, but I feel that this really allows a narrative to be presented that will be appreciated by anyone that has had family in the same position.

How Do I Fight It is a fun effort that blends a vocal sneer with electric buzz and huge drums to make something that listeners will slide on the dance floor for. The drum-vocal dynamic is refreshing and ensures that one will be able to eagerly devour the EP’s final effort, There’s A Way Out. There’s A Way Out winds things down nicely. With a snap/clap beat dominating during the track’s first minute, things gradually open up into a chorus that will tattoo itself indelibly on one’s soul. The tracks on Covering provide fans with a good insight into Simon XO’s biography.
