Skins Volume 1 (DVD)

Does anyone remember the MTV show from the late nineties, Undressed? If so, they will find out that there is a show that blends the hectic sex and actions of the main characters of that show with the youthful indiscretions of a movie like Thirteen. However, unlike Undressed, the characters that are present in Skins are fleshed out and are not seen really as only vessels for gratuitous sex scenes;…

Altered State – Get Real (CD)

Altered State comes up with an interesting style of music during their “Get Real”. During the disc’s first track (the title track), there is a blend of ZZ Top like rock with a set of vocals that will remind listeners of a Heart or a Lita Ford. There is definitely a vintage sound to Altered State that will go over large with those individuals that live, breathe, and die the…

Remy Martin Fine Champagne Cognac V.S.O.P. (80 Proof)

Remy Martin has been the stuff of rap songs and fine cognac connoisseurs for quite some time now. I had not been able to try Remy Martin due to the price point (as you can tell, I try to fly extremely cheap), but after picking up a bottle of the special, limited-edition David La Chapelle version of the V.S.O.P., I would have to say that I am a convert.

Basic Paper Airplane #2

We here at NeuFutur get a decent amount of zines and other material from sources unknown. Basic Paper Airplane is another one of these zines, and thanks have to go out to Joshua James Amberson for sending out this issue. The backdrop for a number of the different pages of this half-sized zines has to do with cat’s cradle types of twine constructs, which only seems to link up with…

Carolyn AlRoy – Gorgeous Enormous (CD)

The indie style of AlRoy during tracks like “Do You Know What I Mean” shows a more simple time. I hear hints of The Breeders in AlRoy’s vocals. The compositions are simple and allow listeners that might not be that knowledgeable about music to appreciate the track. The vocal-dominant style of “Gorgeous Enormous” might be something that is not that compelling to listeners, but this is not vocal heavy to…

The Antlers Announce US Tour W/The Editors

Appropriately enough, Hospice’s 10 distinct chapters resonate on debilitating sonic and lyrical levels, from the hypnotic harp and tension-ratcheting build of “Two” to the sing-or-sink choruses of “Bear” and the speaker-rattling peaks of “Sylvia,” easily one of the year’s most immediate epics. It’s here, amidst contrasting shards of ambient noise, sweeping strings and smoky horns, where The Antlers truly transcend Silberman’s singer-songwriter beginnings—a striking escalation of expectations first hinted at…
