A Plumm Summer (DVD)

A Plumm Summer has been out in some form since 2007, but it is only just now that it is seeing its DVD release. The film itself surrounds the theft of a frog puppet, and showcases the acumen of a set of children, at some points exceeding that of the FBI in regards to solving the case. The film itself is based off a real-life event that hit the town…

‘Temporary Suspension’ is the new album from Planetary Assault Systems aka Luke Slater on Ostgut Ton

“Time to bring the funk and intensity back in a new way. Time to open the sound again”, says Luke Slater about his new Planetary Assault Systems album “Temporary Suspension”, which will be released on Ostgut Ton at the end of June. Funk and intensity, that’s how the Brit who’s successfully searched for new ways of expression in electronic music for the past 20 years, pin-points the essence of this…

The Munchables (Nintendo Wii)

The Munchables blend equal parts Pac-Man and Katamari Damacy. The graphics fit extremely well for the title, despite not being of the hyper realism school that is all the rage in current games. All players have to do here is to om nom nom nom on their enemies – by eating baddies, the characters will grow larger and be able to take on more in the way of obstacles. The…

Megan Cameron – Another Page (CD)

The cover of “Another Page” would throw off pretty much anyone that looked at is, as the smudgy art piece on the front cover would typically indicate something along the lines of a throwback band. To counter this, Megan Cameron sounds at the top of her game, eliciting comparisons to Tori Amos, Natalie Merchant, and Alanis Morisette. Each song does not go too far out with experimentation, but one will…

Aqua Vit (70 Proof)

Aqua Vit is one of the first spirits that we here at NeuFutur have had that are full-powered (or are relatively full powered) that do not easily fall into a whiskey, gin, vodka, rum type of connotation. The spirit itself is created by the owners of the titular restaurant, which has locations in the United States, Sweden, and Japan. The “type” of Aqua Vit varies dependent on where exactly one…

The Limited and Very Rare Noah Van Sciver Mini Comic

In the last year or so, I have felt that I have become increasingly isolated from the hip and happening land of independent magazines and comics. It sucks, to say the least. However, Noah Van Sciver has been gracious enough to begin and continue to foster a working relationship with NeuFutur in the last year or so.

Call Me Lightning – The Trouble We’re In (CD)

Ahh, this band is named after a Who song. Psychedelic imagery is all over their disc, and they mention Led Zepplin in their press release. I’m afraid. Starting out their disc with the retro-rock that is all the rage, along with a spastic base a la flea’s work with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, what results in Call Me Lightning’s first track is something that should appeal to all listeners.…

Artillery returns with a brand new studio album!!!!

Denmark’s Artillery is one of Europe’s earliest exponents of thrash metal and the band’s contribution to the bourgeoning genre is difficult to ignore. The Danish quartet successfully managed to fuse an abrasive brutality with technicality and good melodies, with the noteworthy guitar leads of the Stützer brothers as well as the remarkable vocals from Flemming Rønsdorf serving as highlights. Due to Artillery’s demos being well distributed, the band gained worldwide…

Cale Parks – Illuminated Manuscript (CD)

The opening to “Illuminated Manuscript” are as twinkling as the stars on a clear night. While there are hints of acts like Death Cab For Cutie and The Postal Service present in eir “Pretty Boring”, Cale Parks is able to recast eir music into something completely different than what has been done in the past. The fact that there can be such a full sound with little more than a…
