BISON b.c. confirmed to hit the road with Helmet this September!

The East Vancouver based band BISON b.c., who have been called “heavy as fuck” by Thrasher Magazine, have just confirmed a two-week plus tour with legendary alternative metal band Helmet, who are known for fusing Zeppelinesque riffing with a vehement post-hardcore precision, augmented by dense chords and offbeat time signatures. BISON b.c. will join Helmet when the tour kicks off on Wednesday September 8th in Sacramento, CA at Harlow’s Night…

Local H – Whatever Happened to P.J. Soles? (CD)

A one-hit wonder for many individuals who only listen to popular music, Local H has been releasing albums constantly since their largest commercial success, “As Good As Dead”, hit stores in April of 1996. Much has changed for the band since “Bound For the Floor”, though, and “Whatever Happened to P.J. Soles” is an album that shows a band in transition, moving from a Offspring-but-more-rock sound in “California Songs” to…

JUNGLE ROT drummer leaves + new US tour dates

Death metal institution and Napalm recording artists JUNGLE ROT report the following regarding the departure of drummer Eric House: “Eric found himself in a personal crisis that demanded his utmost attention. Therefore, he had no choice but to leave the band. Since then, we have been jamming with our good friend Tony Ochoa [SINDROME, SPEED HATE KILL] behind the kit, and things are sounding great! Tony is a ridiculously hard…

LN – Dirt Floor Hotel Part 2 (CD)

The odd echo that starts off “Without Your Song” makes the vocals all the more interesting. The instrumentation is so bare as to be non-existent; “Albatross” changes things due to its instrumental opening (a minute and a half worth) but ultimately sticks with a very creepy type of sound. The echoing present in this track mixes in with an electronic sound to change things up, but one knows that the…

Livitz Livitz – Footlong (CD)

Livitz Livitz plays an interesting brand of rock that bounces around quite a few styles on “Footlong”. While there is some kernel of party, Sublime-ish type rock throughout, songs like “Dirty Kelly” push on the hardcore choruses lad forth by Minor Threat. It is only a matter of time before the band is into “Livitz Dub”, a reggae-influenced track that also throws in a country influence to things. If individuals…

Saving Grace: The Final Season (DVD)

Saving Grace was a series that I felt was ended too abruptly. The show itself premiered in 2007, and only got 3 full seasons before it was taken away from viewers. This DVD set, released by Fox, captures the last 19 episodes of the series. During this season, Grace (Holly Hunter) starts off fighting against a terrorist plot (“We’re Already Here”), looks into the suspicious death of a court reporter…
