Buffalo, New York’s Resurgence Brewing Company has hit their tenth anniversary and has just released their commemorative beer in a brand-spanking-new IPA. The brew, hopped with El Dorado, Simcoe, Nelson Sauvin, and Mosaic varieties, pours with a very hazy yellow to light brown coloration. The El Dorado and Mosaic hops contribute to the juicy and tropical character of the Anniversary India Pale Ale, while the inclusions of Simcoe and Nelson Sauvin add layers of complexity with piney, resinous, and slightly grape-ish notes. There is a good amount of whitish head that quickly dissipates, while the lacing creeps its way down the glass when one pours out each pounder can of this hazy india pale ale. There are fruity notes including naval oranges and apricots, a juiciness that makes its way into the early stages of the brew. The beer incredibly drinkable with a crisp and clean finish leaving lingering hints of citrus as it continues to warm to room temperature. This is bar none one of the most approachable IPAs that we have experienced so far this year. While it would perform admirably as a palette cleanser no mattter what cuisine one is digging into, this Anniversary IPA works as a lawnmower beer as well as a way to facilitate one’s time cornholing or playing team sports.
