Beware Fashionable Women – S/T (CD)

“Rock Bottom” starts off this self-titled release, and what comes forth is a pretty pop-oriented approached to indie rock. The tight bass lines are what will immediately shine to listeners, but it seems at this early juncture that there is little more to truly shine from Beware Fashionable Women. However, there are nine different tracks after that to choose from, the first of which is “Obligatory Tattoo”. “Obligatory Tattoo” changes…

Merle Haggard: Legendary Performances (DVD)

I know that the Legendary Performances series has been covered considerably by a number of different individuals over the last few months, but I feel that the series, and especially the Merle Haggard edition of the series, are worth a more critical view. For those individuals that may not have had the chance to view any of the series, they are essentially compilations of performances that one major individual in…

Pendleton Blended Canadian Whisky (80 Proof)

For some reasons, the amount of whiskey (and whisky) that we have received seems to be well beyond that of any other type of spirit. There have been a number of great whiskeys that have crossed this reviewer’s table in the year or so since we first opened the alcohol reviews section, then, and Pendleton is one of the best that we’ve ever had the chance to lay lips on.…

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (Blu-Ray)

I did not have the chance to watch the first movie in the Chronicles of Narnia story arc, but I was lucky enough to see the film in theatres. Saying that, the Blu-Ray transfer that Disney has created is simply stunning. The audio is as crisp and as clear as anyone could experience in the theater, while the video is rich and vibrant, showing the otherworldly allure created by the…

Blammo #2

It has been a while since I have had the chance to review a comic zine, but Noah Van Sciver was gracious enough to go forth and send over a copy of Blammo #2 for review in NeuFutur. The style of the comic bounces back and forth between life stories, interviews with comic creators and band members, with all pieces linked together with the same neurotic, funny style.

Captain Morgan 100 Proof Spiced Rum (100 Proof)

We have received for review a disproportionate share of rums during the year and a half that we have had our alcohol review section active. However, this is the first time that we have been fortunate enough to review a Spiced Rum. Before receiving the Captain Morgan 100 Proof Spiced Rum, my only experience with that variety of rum came in the Lady Bligh that a number of friends swore…

Top 5 Christmas/Holiday Tracks

It’s the holiday’s whoop-dee fucking shit. Obviously, I’m not the most spirited person this time of year. I really despise the snow and the whole green and red color scheme. But, there’s always one upside and that’s excellent songs about the wonderful Christmas holiday, here’s my top five list of songs that you should listen to while getting fat on cookies and ham.

Cowboy Mouth – Fearless (CD)

Eighteen years and still going for some unexplainable reason. New Orleans party band Cowboy Mouth have managed to take a handful of trite party songs, a strong word-of-mouth live show and shape a pretty decent career as second rate Jimmy Buffetts. On Fearless, their ninth full length, the band continues to confound. Filled with 12 mostly novelty songs about everything from big girls (Belly) to Kelly Ripa (Kelly Ripa), the…

The Killers – Day & Age (CD)

Based on interviews alone, it’d be easy to dismiss The Killers as little more than naive keyboard rockers with laughably bombastic quotes about world domination or simply millennials who just discovered Depeche Mode and David Bowie and have a few more minutes left on their fame stop watch.

Rivers Cuomo – Alone II: The Home Recordings of Rivers Cuomo (CD)

I’m certainly not the first to compare Weezer front man Rivers Cuomo to Brian Wilson, but the comparison is particularly apt with Cuomo’s second collection of home recordings released in just 12 months. The harmony-loving Wilson created some of the best pop records of the 60’s and Weezer took the stigma out of pop rock in the 90’s; the frighteningly talented Wilson has been rather prolific following a very long…

Daniel Park – These Illusions (CD)

“Anthropology” is the first hit to be had on Daniel Park’s “These Illusions”. Hints of David Archuleta present themselves immediately, along with individuals like Shawn Mullins, and Jack Johnston. The slightly gritty vocals of Park work perfect with the smooth arrangements that operate as a backdrop for the track. There is no reason that “Anthropology” should not be the next big track in the vein of Jars of Clay’s “Art…

Seven Mile Ride – S/T

The first track on this EP is “Face in the Crowd”, and the song itself is a perfect introduction to the music tour de force that is Seven Mile Ride. This is due to the fact that the band is hitting on all cylinders, creating a brand of rock that is unique will still playing on some of the genre’s best known acts. The strong vocals present during this introductory…

Sobieski Vodka (80 Proof)

Danica: I’m a huge fan of vodka, I love all types and flavors. So, when I had the chance to review this vodka, I made sure that I was having a craving for a good mixed drink. Before consumption I chilled the bottle in the freezer to make sure it was at a perfectly cold temperature. After the vodka was chilled I opened the bottle and poured out my first…

Pre-Delegitimization

I believe all people are generally good, and almost all the people in my small village have the best of intentions, and would love to live in a world of perfect peace and harmony. These people work hard every day and many have a lot more experience in the real world than I do. The people of Brewster, Ohio, for the most part do a great job of raising their…

None But Ourselves

Has a song ever made you cry? I feel this is a question of utmost importance in determining whether or not one experiences empathy. The overwhelming rush of adrenaline up your spine and wave of electricity flying up your arm to your fingertips with the only source being such a powerful song that embodies commanding soul forcing you to feel the artist’s genuine attempt to connect with another soul.

Joey Cape – Bridge (CD)

Joey Cape is certainly not suffering for lack of musical outlets. As the front man for Lagwagon, he also bounces between Bad Astronaut, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, Afterburner and The Playing Favorites. You can now add solo artist to his every-expanding resume. Though he had a split record with No Use For a Name singer Tony Sly a few years ago, “Bridge” is Cape’s first full length solo…

Knob Creek (100 Proof)

I still recall my first experience with Knob Creek. I was with one of my friends at DePauw University and ordered a whiskey sour using Knob Creek. I was a big fan of the spirit in that concoction, but this was with limited experience in the field (only being exposed to Ten High, Evan Williams, and Jack Daniels previously) and with the sample being blended in with a mixer. Luckily…
